Fine, whatever. I’m through here. I’m wrong, everyoe else is right. Bye.

Okay, I’m more awake now, and I apologize for being oversensitive. I guess I thought that this was a discussion forum, not a “quote the other person if you don’t agree with him or her and beat that person over the head with his or her own words forum.” In fact, I thought that the rules said something to the effect of being charitable, and not excessively quoting the previous reply in one’s response. I guess I was wrong about that. Anyway, back to the topic. I don’t know whether what I posted was really what went on, of course, since I wasn’t there. Nor was I just passing on excuses for our Holy Father. I was merely pointing out for those who are uptight about what happened that what he did was out of charity, and that there are those who would like to entrap our Holy Father, and find all sorts of things wrong, just to stir trouble.

Maybe in my tired state of mind, I wasn’t clear. I don’t know any more details than anyone else here at this forum, and I don’t pretend to know. But neither does anyone who replies. The only ones who truly know Our Holy Father’s motives are God, and Pope Francis. So, instead of getting bent out of shape as to what happened, let’s wait and see the fruits of it all.

I happen to love this Pope, for more reasons than I can count. I thought I was simply standing up for him, and I find that I get beat up for standing up for him, and by people who are also standing up for him as well, and that I don’t get. What I posted was sheer speculation, not point of fact. I don’t think that I should be beaten over the head with my own words for simply raising speculation. If you have a critique of my approach to the subject, fine. If you think I should word things better, fine. But don’t all out assault my opinion as though it in and of itself has absolutely no merit. Correct me, fine. Hit me over the head and treat me like I’m stupid, uh-uh.

Sorry for rambling off topic again. I’ll try not to do so in future. Thanks.

Many parishes do not have a full-time priest. They do without Mass when a priest is unavailable. If your (and what you suppose to be Rome’s) theological take on the footwashing is important, then why not do without it where 12 of the ordained are not available? Chrism Masses are only held in one location in each diocese, due to the Bishoo being required, so why not the footwashing? Because it’s not required that only the ordained participate in this rite.

Besides which, we may well see the rubric changed shortly. There certainly has been precious little time for His Holiness to do so since his election. In the meantime why not start as he means to go on? Because that would be a violation of the rubrics of the Mass and therefore disobedient. If the rubric is changed by next year, that’s another story.

I don’t tend to believe that. I have no doubt that the Pope probably inquired if there were women and those of other religions available. This is a man trying to teach the world to love an accept each other as Christ would. We are all God children and he wants us to remember that. Some of us have a hard time with that than others.
Only the baptized are God’s children. Baptism is the means by which we are incorporated into Christ and therefore become sons and daughters by adoption.

aemcpa - the Pope owes obedience to no rubric, to no Canon except those which cannot be dispensed from. Definitely to no theology except that which is required doctrinal and dogmatic belief, and to no tradition imposed by his predecessors for any other reason.

The continued use of the word ‘disobedience’ to describe his actions in this instance is dangerously misleading.

What it says in the bible is that Christ washed the feet of his disciples…not apostles. So, just because Pope Francis washed the feet of two women…it does NOT mean that the APOSTLES were female. But I am sure some of his disciples were. But it was the apostles who became priest…not all his disciples. End of story…no women priest.

What I was trying to say is that average Joe Catholic isn’t going to get all into rubrics and cannon law. You would expect that you could trust your Bishop and the USCCB. At the very least it is confusing and now you add Pope Francis into the mix.

But now that Holy Thursday is over…can we go back to other matters then this? Who know, by next Holy Thursday, maybe there will be some clarification in place:shrug:

I think those days of complete trust are over now that the sex-abuse scandals are exposed and you have bishops knowingly giving holy communion to the likes of pro-aborts like nancy pelosi and joe bidden. If they wish to rebuild the trust the bishops will have to make hard efforts. I trust in the holy spirit to deliver us from dark times.
