As I understand it, Church law previously required that all local marriage tribunal rulings be reviewed by an appeal court (by default the metropolitan tribunal). Pope Francis streamlined the process and removed this requirement. Looking at my archdiocese’s website, it still indicates that all local rulings must be reviewed by the Canadian appeals tribunal in Ottawa. Is this actually still the case? Just curious.
