“And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat: And to all beasts of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to all that move upon the earth, and wherein there is life, that they may have to feed upon. And it was so done.” Genesis 1:28-30

God gave us the Earth to subdue and own. As we continue to go out in to space, what are our rights to other planets, asteroids etc? If we find life on Mars for example, do we have the right to interfere with another planets evolutionary development? The Star Trek philosophy of Noninterference comes to mind.

What about the right of all alive beings on the earth?

Since you mentioned Star Trek, I actually think their “Prime Directive” is a pretty good starting point. The authors did a good job there.

The only thing I would second guess or have a hard time with from the fictional “Prime Directive” (which the characters often had trouble with too) is not interfering with possible extinction level events for non-warp capable species.

As for our own solar system, I think if we need to treat the solar system like a “national park” or protected wilderness which have some mining or settlement agreements. We should be able to mine and settle on the planets, moons and asteroids, but only in a way that also protects them for prosperity and future scientific study. In other words, we should not treat them the same way Europeans treated the Americas.

Morality does not come from Star Trek.

This may never become an issue. Human colonization in space is not presently in the cards, and may never be in the cards. God may intend that all human feet remain on the ground or under it when he returns.

For starters, we should follow the Ten Commandments with regard to the local life forms, if there are any.

In an astronomy class I had one question on the exam, It said, “Is there evidence of intelligent life in the universe”

I put down yes.

It was marked wrong. I don;t care what they say, some people are intelligent. (not all, but some.) LOL

I doubt if there would be any ethical problem with other forms of life in other places. They probably would be veggies or maybe little green guys walking around.

I think God is going to push us off the planet. I suppose I’ve got my faith pinned to quantum teleporting in the long run. We’re already fiddling around with it in a very small way.

As part of His method of “push”, He’ll let us wreck the earth, probably with nuclear war. I mean if you take a good look at the world situation now, we’re not doing very well - Islamic terrorists, war in Afghanistan and the Middle East, Russia and Ukraine facing off against each other over the Crimea, massive national debts, China and India both look like eclipsing the US as economic super powers, the North Korean stupidity as a wild card in the East Asian area, fossil fuels declining (especially petoleum), and all the rest.

After wrecking this planet, hopefully we will at last have learnt that war gets you nowhere, and having destroyed what is probably the best of all possible planets in this universe, we will be a bit more ethical in our decisions regarding the environment, other planetary beings (if there are any) and so on.

Ive wondered about this as well, mostly though about how the second coming would impact people if humans were spread out on other planets.

We are progressing pretty fast when it comes to technology, and if we are truly not even close to being in the end times, maybe the second coming wont happen for another 5000 yrs? Im pretty sure, we will colonize other planets well before that length of time though.

Plus, would Satan even be able to impact or influence anyone if they were not on the planet, in the bible, it does say Satan and his demons were cast down to earth, so I assume its unlikely he would be able to impact anyone if they were on another planet…interesting to think about how a society on another planet would look if satan was not able to get to them!

It would make no difference how far we’d gone as far as the second coming goes. That’s the end of the show, and the whole universe would disappear.

2 Peter 3:10 NIV
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.** The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire**, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
