Hello,
Nice to hear that you (I’m assuming it’s you?) want to join the Catholic Church.
Is there a Catholic priest in your area that you can consult? You would need to receive some instruction to be brought into the church. The priest would be best able to advise you on how that works in your area.

Being Orthodox, instruction would probably be minimal at most, especially if converting at the Catholic counterpart to your church.

While it varies, typically nothing more than profession of faith and/or confession.

To become Roman Catholic, you would first convert to Catholicism, where you would initially be enrolled in the “nearest” rite, and could then simply send a litter to both bishops requesting the transfer (a priest of the receiving church will help).

Thank you all for your responses but I wanted to understand what steps would be needed to fully apply myself to the faith especially since My church is supposedly Orthodox but because of complex history it’s validity can be debated.

I don’t think the Catholic churches dispute the validity of any of the Thomist churches (but then, I suppose there could be a couple more I haven’t heard about).

If there is a Catholic church with similar rite, approach a priest of that church. It will probably be very simple.

If there is not a parallel church, approach any Thomist Catholic priest.

When I was at the Knights of Columbus state convention in Nevada a few weeks ago, there was a visiting Indian bishop from one of the Catholic Thomist churches. His seminary has sent eight priests so far to theReno diocese.

So we raised another $1000 for him selling additional tickets for our seminary fund that night at our banquet.

Is this a community that is in communion with the Oriental Orthodox Church or a community that is in communion with the Assyrian Church of the East?

The Church is independent of both and has a “special relationship” with the anglican church

Actually for a proper definition and a way that the church defines itself is "the Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church recognises itself as a church of Oriental Orthodox faith but not in full communion with it. The church also is independent in governance and does not see itself as part of the Anglican communion even though it is in full communion with the Church of South India and the Church of North India. It sees an ecumenical relationship with the Anglican communion and is not Protestant. The church defines itself as “Apostolic in origin, Universal in nature, Biblical in faith, Evangelical in principle, Ecumenical in outlook, Oriental in worship, Democratic in function, and Episcopal in character.”

Do they have an apostolic succession that is recognized as such by the Catholic Church?

I am not too sure, they claim to have apostolic succession but not sure if it is recognized by Rome, however I go to a Publicly funded Catholic School in Canada where on of the requirements is that you have to be from the Catholic or Orthodox Churches (Anglicans are excluded) and in that list this church is also included.

What do your parents think about your interest in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church?

Well the thing with the Mar Thoma Church is that they are very into ecumenism so my parents think all (Trinitarian) Christians are worthy of worship at but with that mentality they do not get why I want to convert but are okay with whatever decision I make.

In that case I recommend that you make an appointment with your local priest and see what it would take for you to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.
I will pray for you.

Thank you my brother/sister in Christ thank you for all your time you took to respond to my questions I will also pray for you as well.
