Marcelino Sanchez from "The Warriors"/"The Bloodhound Gang"

I have recently watched the 1979 cult classic movie, “The Warriors”; and am a big fan of Marcelino Sanchez, who played Rembrandt. He also played Ricardo on the “Bloodhound Gang” mysteries that aired on PBS’ science show, “3-2-1 Contact” back in the 1980’s.

I learned that Marcelino died in 1986 of cancer. My question is, does anybody know if this actor was Catholic? I can find very little biographical information on him, and would like to learn more about his life and religious beliefs (just a nosy fan, I guess!). Does anyone out there have any info.?
