Hello,
Here’s a news update from the northern front. I attended the May 14 march for life in Ottawa. It’s the Canadian edition of the annual March for Life of Washington DC that takes place every January.
It’s not easy getting the scoop on the Canadian march it because it doesn’t register in the secular media. A Google search will bring up pretty much nothing, save for Catholic convert Michael Coren’s piece in the National Post.

We had 12,000 people attend for the 40th anniversary (May 14 1969) of prime minister Pierre Trudeau’s omnibus bill which among other things legalized abortions. Here is Trudeau speaking on this at the time he introduced the legislation.

Anyhow we had a very stormy day, and with all the umbrellas in the way it was difficult to get a clear view of the speakers on Parliament hill. I was however able to make out archbishop Thomas Collins, Cardinal Ouelet, other Catholic clergy, several knights of Columbus members, large Our lady of Guadalupe images and the silent no more speakers. They mentioned it was an inter-denominational gathering however the Protestants I spotted were mainly Pentecostals handing out advertisements for their Church on the way out.
There were about a dozen protesters along the March, and their chants of “keep your Rosaries off our ovaries” made it clear who they saw as a threat. Anyhow a lot more bishops got seriously involved this year and I only heard about the march through our Church bulletin. Send a note to your Bishop to thank and encourage him.

It was a very moving experience and I met some truly fascinating people on fire for the faith and for our cause. If you haven’t attended this annual event yet you are missing a life-altering experience.
