March for Life in D.C

Anybody on these forums go to Washington to march yesterday? Our K of C council sent a full bus load of men down . . .

I couldn’t go, but I understand it was the largest turnout ever.

Please share your observations.
 
I was there. It was rainy, cold, and crowded and I loved it.
 
My 8 yr old daughter and I went to DC yesterday on a bus. It was an amazing experience! HUGE doesn’t even begin to describe the number of people there. Of course EWTN has a wonderful documentation with interviews every year, but I was a wee bit disappointed that it was nowhere in the secular media today. Was it in the news yesterday?

It was cold and drizzley at times, but eventually cleared up. We only had to use our umbrellas once early in the ralley/ march.

I was inspired by the vast numbers of peaceful, loving strong Americans!
 
There was an article in the Washington Post and also it was on CNN’s website. Didn’t make headlines, so you have to look for it.
 
I’ve been attending the March for Life each year since 1985. Yesterday my wife, three of our kids and I marched with friends and family in the could-have-been-much-worse weather. I, too, thought it was the largest crowd to date. It is a testament, I think, to the fact that we may see light at the end of the tunnel if we have a pro-life majority Supreme Court.

The media has never adequately covered the March for Life as long as I’ve paid attention (I stopped checking several years ago!). Look for coverage on EWTN and your local Catholic newspaper if you have one.

Who knows? Maybe next year we will march in celebration of the overturning of Roe v Wade!

That is an awesome suggestion!

I was there!! Awesome experience! I am suffering today from our 2 day trip, but thankful for it all! This was the first year I was able to go. I took my 12 year old daughter with me. We want to go back every year until Roe is history!! 👍

Roe has spawned more death “children” Euthanasia, stem cell research, cloning, treating human beings like objects or guinea pigs and their worth determined by how much they are wanted or how expensive their care. If Roe is overturned, we will probably still need to march until our culture has changed.
 
My 8 year old daughter and I went down with a group by bus. It was a long day. It was so uplifting to be with people who love life. We were awed by the amount of people. Also we visited our Congressman’s office. Of course, he was back home in the district, but we spoke with a staffer. I figure the poor guy drew the short straw. Unfortunately, our Congressman is a “Pro-choice Catholic.” We also stopped by Peter King’s office. He was not there, but his staff was very welcoming (Coffee & Hot Chocolate) and we were provided with a listing of all the Congressman’s pro-life votes. On our way back home, we stopped at a service area in NJ and it was packed with fellow marcher’s returning home weary, but joyful.

At the Hyatt, 🙂 I picked up a rosary book for children and families… Speak, Lord, I am Listening by Christine Haapala and published by Suffering Servant Scriptorium. Our girls love it.
 
I watched you all on EWTN for a couple of hours. Someday I’ll drive on down.
 
I attended the West Coast Walk for Life in San Francisco, 2 days earlier. It was great to be a witness to Love and Life. This is the second year of the Walk and the second year I’ve attended. We had quite a bit fewer counter protestors, but the media still gave them as much or more coverage as the 15,000 people walking for the cause of Life.

Also, the media gave precidence to the Right to Life Members who took the most extreme views, of whom I only saw 2 people. Two people of 15,000 and their views were portrayed as representative of the day!

Give me a break.

But, all in all, it was an excellent experience and I too anticipate going every year until Roe is overturned and the States change their laws to preserve life.

me…me…me!!! I got to go!! It was incredible! I posted pics on the other thread. I chaparoned for my daughter’s school. Wow! The only thing that struck me as sad was the lack of other religions there. On the other hand, I don’t think I have ever seen so many Catholics in my entire life!!! The joy was seeing all the seminarians and religious there! The kids were totally awesome too. So many, so incredibly moving!!!
 
BlestOne - There are many religions represented each year at the March For Life. One of the highlighted speakers each year is always a Rabbi. I think that because we Catholics have many outward religious items like rosaries, etc. that our Catholic identity is easier to recognize. It is always a blessing to see so many priests and nuns in attendance each year as well!

I pray that we will not have to continue marching each year and that this modern-day holocaust will soon end. However, until that day arrives, ALL of God’s people who cherish life must stand up and be counted as being a Pro-Lifer and a defender of the unborn.

It’s wonderful that you were able to march this year. Let’s pray you won’t have to very soon!
 
I took two of my children. I wonder that with the State of the Union Address going on the next night if more politicians weren’t in town.

I must remember to continue to visit my state representatives and senators. We used to do this in the past but now with the Verison Center youth event being such a big event, we don’t have the speeches in that state convention rooms like we used to and so I didn’t visit my representatives.
 
Wasn’t mass awesome! Great homily! The only thing disappointing was the lack of news coverage for such a big event. 😦 😦
Not surprizing, just disappointing!
