Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus It came about because a few days after the great apparition to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque on June 1675, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque made all known to Father de la Colombiere and he consecrated himself to the Sacred Heart, directed the holy Visitandine to write an account of the apparition, then discreetly circulated the devotion through France and England. At his death was found in his own handwritng her account plus reflections on the devotion. Father Croiset a Jesuit then espoused the cause of devotion and did much for it. Note: I have not yet read Abandoment to Divine Providence, but it was written by her confessor, and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a fundamental means of Devotion ot the Sacred Heart of Jesus. To the best of my knowledge, from the first site that I read which listed to three works of hers, St. Margaret Mary Aloque first devoted herself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during an illness long before the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
