I’m training to be a Marian Catechist. I’ve completed the Basic Catechist’s Course, and am 30% through the Advanced Course.
Basically, being a “Marian” catechist means that one does one’s Apostolate under the mantle of the Blessed Virgin and having a deep personal relationship with Christ.
The courses themselves are very orthodox, covering a wide variety of topics. I can’t recommend them enough. They’re also challenging.
The first course is fairly easy. The second course is hard. I’ve not yet taken the third.
You have to take tests after each chapter, and then mail them in to be graded. To be a Marian Catechist, you must score overall 70% or better. The questions are challenging. You really have to think.
I had to pause my studies in the Advanced course because I didn’t know scripture well enough to pass the tests! LOL!!! I’ve been spending the last year learning the Bible so I can resume my studies.
How it works is this: You start at the Basic Level (required) and send in your money. They mail you a pile of books (included in the fee). You go through the readings chapter by chapter and fax or mail in your tests. (If you mail it, make copies!). They will mail your results to you. When finished with the course you get a certificate endorsed by the Bishop.
The books were written by the late Father John Hardon, a very highly-regarded priest and theologian. The courses do require a lot of reading, especially the second.
I can’t recommend this course-of-study enough. It’s WELL worth it! Here’s a link:

When you’re totally finished, then you can become CONSECRATED as a Marian Catechist by a priest or Bishop. The consecration is renewed annually, and it is a lay Ministry.
God Bless!
