I would like to hear some experiences with the Marian Catechist program. Is anybody here a Marian Catechist? Do you know a Marian Catechist?

I am thinking of starting the process of becoming a Marian Catechist in the near future, and would like to hear some testimony.

Here is their website: mariancatechist.com

I’m training to be a Marian Catechist. I’ve completed the Basic Catechist’s Course, and am 30% through the Advanced Course.

Basically, being a “Marian” catechist means that one does one’s Apostolate under the mantle of the Blessed Virgin and having a deep personal relationship with Christ.

The courses themselves are very orthodox, covering a wide variety of topics. I can’t recommend them enough. They’re also challenging.

The first course is fairly easy. The second course is hard. I’ve not yet taken the third.

You have to take tests after each chapter, and then mail them in to be graded. To be a Marian Catechist, you must score overall 70% or better. The questions are challenging. You really have to think.

I had to pause my studies in the Advanced course because I didn’t know scripture well enough to pass the tests! LOL!!! I’ve been spending the last year learning the Bible so I can resume my studies.

How it works is this: You start at the Basic Level (required) and send in your money. They mail you a pile of books (included in the fee). You go through the readings chapter by chapter and fax or mail in your tests. (If you mail it, make copies!). They will mail your results to you. When finished with the course you get a certificate endorsed by the Bishop.

The books were written by the late Father John Hardon, a very highly-regarded priest and theologian. The courses do require a lot of reading, especially the second.

I can’t recommend this course-of-study enough. It’s WELL worth it! Here’s a link:

When you’re totally finished, then you can become CONSECRATED as a Marian Catechist by a priest or Bishop. The consecration is renewed annually, and it is a lay Ministry.

God Bless!

And what would be involved in being a lay Minister?

Your ministry, then, is to teach Catechism as a consecrated Marian Catechist. So … you basically have to go to work. Our Diocese consecrates all its catechists, regardless if they’ve gotten their certification through this particular course.

You can also be a nonconsecrated Catechist, I suppose. That is, you can use the knowledge for online Apologetics or some other purpose other than formal teaching.

Whether you want to formally teach or not, I still recommend this course. It’s excellent!

God Bless!

My wife and I are looking into it.

I’m not sure what I will use it for, I’m thinking about joining the Legion of Mary and perhaps using this to beef up for that, there may be other catechatical ministries in the future, just not sure yet what it would be, including maybe the diaconate.

My wife, however, will be doing it to do it with me and hold each other accountable, for her own spiritual growth and also mainly so that we can properly catechize our children when/if we are so blessed as we would like to homeschool them.

Are these good reasons to do the program?

Thank you Golden Arrow for the information.

I wish more people knew about this awesome program, as I think it could be huge in changing this country and our Church for the better.

I am in the same position as you, (but I think you knew that already! 😉 )

Also I had a question: Is the consecration as a Marian Catechist a specific one for the MC, or is it similar to the consecration suggested by St. Louis de Montfort?

Thanks! 🙂
