Besides Panagyiotis, and Mario (:D), what are other Marian names guys can take?
 
Why not just use Marion? It’s an Americanized version of Mario. Some cultures also use the feminine version, Marian, for males too.
 
Here in Mexico, they mix names. For example, a man might be “José Maria”. Although unfortunately that probably would be taken the wrong way in the US.

IMNAAHO, it sounds too much like the female version; the boy would get picked on.

Why not just use Marian as a male name? I’m a big hockey fan and one of my favorite players is Marian Hossa who is an elite player from Slovakia, he happens to be quite strong and rugged. I see no reason not to use Marian as a male name.
 
why do some priests take Mary as a name and some nuns take male
names?
 
Is Parthenius a marian name for a guy? And what does it mean?
And a related question specifically to you guys, if it is a marian name, is it a name used in Eastern Christianity?

Parthenius would seem to derive from Greek parthenos, virgin.

I am not Othodox so can’t address that.

Parthenius is a Latinization of the Greek word Parthenos, which means Virgin.

Parthenios, but not Parthenos. I’m not quite sure if the name is explicitly dedicated to the Virgin though, since the name predates Christianity.

As I understand it, **Rosario **(“Rosary”) is a boy’s name, Miss Dawson notwithstanding; the girl’s version is Rosaria.

*Virgil *is from the Latin Virgilius/Vergilius, of unknown etymology, but suggested to mean “vigil”, not “virgin”.

*Reginald *— from Germanic ragin-wald, “counsel–rule” — was influenced by Latin Regina, but is not its masculine cognate: *Rex *(“king”) is.

There appears to be a Dutch name, Reginatus, but I cannot find an etymology. It may derive from Regina.

The name **Gimore **or **Gilmour **is from Scots Gaelic *(Mac) Gille Mhoire *or Irish (Mac) Giolla Mhuire, meaning “Servant of Mary”.

**Regino **is apparently a Spanish masculine form of Regina.

You could also go full-bore Twenty-First Century and make up your own name, like **Stelmar **(from Stella Maris, “Star of the Sea”). 👍

The gender-conversion of Spanish names by substitution of O for A or A for O is extremely common.

Is it okay we stay closer to eastern names that Orthodox would normally use? It’s why I put this in the eastern Catholic section. Thanks! (And for all the answers so far)
