Marian Processions and "Women's Marches"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Very interesting article HERE, compares the recent Washington DC Women’s Marches to the Catholic Marian Processions which go back centuries.

The title is: “The Woman’s March that continues after Two Millennia”. It was especially good to know about the “Great Marian Procession” in CA. How we need a revival of Marian devotion in the United States and in the world!

Next Month, all around the world the Legion of Mary members will be in various places processing toward their Queen Mother and renewing their total Consecration to her. Each Year on a day closest to Mar. 25 (this year most will be celebrating this special procession on Saturday, Mar. 25) there is an “Acies” Mass offered. The latin word “Acies” means “army set in battle array”. God knows how much we need an army marching behind Mary, who is “terrible as an army set in battle array” against the demon-enemies of God.

I don’t get how they are comparable though. Besides the fact that they are both marches. One is marching for something (be it abortion, against sexual assault etc) and one is marching to show their love for a woman.

Thanks for your reply. I think the author of the article is making the comparison for a couple of reasons. Perhaps he wanted to pose questions or provoke responses, for example:

1. Where are the Catholics processing (or marching) to honor Mary today?
2. Women’s marches are not new – but how sad that these particular marches in Wash., DC and elsewhere were for the most part angry protests and not prayerful ones.
3. For centuries the Church has had both clergy and laity who were happy to process through neighborhoods to honor Jesus in Corpus Christi Processions and during May in various May processions to honor Mary. Have the majority of Catholics “forgotten” the Woman of Genesis? God promised Jesus would come through the woman. Mary said her “Yes” . Jesus on the Cross told us: “Behold your Mother”; Mary is Mother and icon or Model of the Church. She is all we are called to be.
4. Who are we following? Are we in line with Mary in her perfect discipleship of following Jesus or whom are we choosing to follow ???

The article is one to ponder for ourselves and for our families. Hopefully all who read this thread will continue to hear more from the Holy Spirit, in these times of unrest.
