hello, im not sure if your aware a recent marian miracle thats all over youtube… a marble statue of the virgin mary miraculously open its eyes in front of the camera!!! there was a story written in spanish about it and its all over youtube

youtube.com/watch?v=WUCinyHxRNY

you can see it beginning at 1:20-1:30

I wish I took Spanish back in High School instead of French. But I’ll wait to hear the Church’s Official Ruling on this one.

Basically they were saying how she closed her eyes because she didnt want to see what was happening in the world. probably relating to abortion in mexico… ect…

Thanks for sharing that. Don’t know what to say about it, but it is interesting!

It seems strange to me that Mary would only manifest her presence through her eyes and leave a stone face to present them. That intuitively tells me something is amiss here. Why does God only grant a partial miracle? After the eyes close and we assume Mary has left the eyes seem to retain a “seperate” character – as if they are not stone and look more like they are mechanically actuated with a distinct seam between the face and the eyes.

As well, the announcer seems to lack any sort of “reverence” and seemed to be the typical sort of Latino entertainer - lots of words but contrived and poorly acted enthusiasm that lacks conviction. His eyes told the true story - con job and cheap sensationalism playing to a narrow audience demographic - just another day in TV land to put bread on the table.

Anyone know what Latin TV program genre this show was taped from?

I would say this is a fraud - just my own intuition.

From my viewing, I go to the moment when they put the two images side by side … eyes open, eyes closed … and you have quite some time to compare the two images.

You may then come to your own conclusions.

I have my suspicions … the Madonna on the right does not appear to have eyebrows, the Madonna on the left has eyebrows … what is going on?

There are too many cons in the world to not automatically assume that someone replaced the statue with one that has mechanical eyes. No miracle there.

One of the great lost art traditions of the high Middle Ages were all the beautiful wooden clockwork or movable puppet-type statues that used to be made. Today all we see of them are medieval clocks in town squares (or inside churches), with little dancing figures. But there used to be regular church statues and dioramas of this type, and even crucifixes made in this way. This wasn’t for fraud or for humor, but rather as regular devotional church art. It was an additional feature to be proud of, that artists and craftsmen worked hard to include. The idea was to make statues even more realistic and capable of evoking emotion by making them able to adopt more than one expression.

Pretty much all of these clockwork/puppet statues were destroyed during the Reformation. They seem to have been a particular peeve of the Reformers.

Not that this has anything much to do with the thread, per se…

Seems like a fraud, and stuff like this does us more harm than good. I haven’t clicked the link but I bet there’s plenty of snide comments from the “other crowd”, who in turn may think Christians are all alike.
