Marilyn Manson is an ordained Satanic priest and many of his album covers or songs disrespect Jesus but there are some songs that are clean and normal songs like The Nobodies, 15, Spade, Tainted Love. I enjoy those songs. If you had to guess would it be sinful to listen to those.?

Generally speaking, if one has to ask about sinfulness of an activity, it indicates trouble.
Perhaps a near occasion of sin.
So why put oneself to a test if you do not need to.

That said…
Why exactly would it be?

It’s all an act to shock people. He was part of a very strict evangelical background and he’s just rebelled ever since.

Not necessarily. This is, in fact, the opposite of the advice you should give to someone who is scrupulous.

Without getting into all the details, I tend to agree with halogirl.

If you just want to listen to the guy’s songs, fine. If you want to go around emulating his life, that would be a problem.
Same for Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who had a big Crowley/ Satanism phase for a while which I believe he has by this point left in the dust along with the drug addictions that accompanied it.
I don’t stop listening to Stairway to Heaven because Jimmy Page used to have a magick problem. I just make sure to avoid the occult stuff myself.

Most satanic priests don’t actually worship satan. They just promote materialism and stuff.

never mind… one thing, Tainted Love is a cover I’d rekcon.

When faced with a question about whether or not to listen to a particular song, I always try to use my discretion. I tend to take these issues on a song by song basis as opposed to grossly overgeneralizing everything. So, if an artist makes music and some of their songs are inappropriate, I won’t listen to those songs. And if they make music that is good, then I’ll listen to that instead. If you see someone like Marilyn Manson who uses offensive imagery at times and look at individual songs, I’m sure you can find songs that are fine, and I don’t see a strong reason why it would be wrong to listen to those good songs. Some people may not be far along in their relationship with God. Others may not always act in the most moral way to put things lightly. However, that doesn’t mean that everything they do is wrong and should be avoided. This is just my 2 cents on this question.

He’s actually quite an intelligent guy from what I’ve seen in interviews. Enjoyed his views in the docufilm Bowling for Columbine. Actually I also liked his take on the character of Willy Wonka - as a Satan like character who tempts the kids to choose good or evil and they mostly choose evil.

He always reminded me of an updated-for-the-90s Alice Cooper. Alice of course was also a highly intelligent guy whose shocking persona was mostly just an act. He did have a major struggle with alcoholism, but managed to beat that and is now an awesome elder statesman.

And a Christian 🙂 my friends have seen his tour at Halloween twice I’d love to see him 🐍 🎃🙂

He does a very good show. Last time I saw him was before the 2016 election when he had “Trump” and “Hillary” wrestling onstage and “Vote for Alice” T-shirts, it was a lot of fun. My buddy has been a mega fan of his for about 40 years so I always get to hear a lot about Alice.

I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing him live. Probably the best act that I have ever seen. Engaging and sounded great, despite being around for a few decades!

I always change my profile pic to his the last day before school breaks for summer (we teachers get just as excited ) once worked in a school where they played Schools Out for Summer Over the tannoy when all the kids had gone home 🎸

That is hilarious 😂

When I was a student, every year the first thing I did when I got home for Summer was play Schools Out on Guitar Hero. It’s great that teachers and students alike can rejoice over Summer 😃

Yup. That’s why it’s called Shock Rock, or used to be anyways, lol. He just took what Alice Cooper and KISS did 8n the 70s and early 80s and turned up another notch or ten to get a reaction. By today’s standards of music entertainment, KISS and Cooper are pretty tame and family friendly, I know it sounds funny to hear but compareitvely speaking that is the case. Funny things is Alice Cooper is Christian. Of the original lineup of KISS, Gene and Paul are Jewish, Peter is Catholic and Ace is Lutheran. They all still practice their Faith’s to some degree or another. Some are pretty devout while the others not as much.

That being said I wonder how much of Manson’s act is an act. Alice has a hilarious comment on the Black Metal guys and artist like Marilyn Manson. Now those guys from the Black Metal band Description Gorgoroth, I believe are Satanic, for real. The one guy in a documentary I saw lookspossessed, just a really bad look in his eyes.

@dbranch I would stay away from the Black Metal bands for sure. Not sure what to say about Manson though. Other than a couple covers he did I never got into him back in my Metal days. To me he was to much of a copy of KISS and Cooper.

You’re right there are bands I would never listen to especially the band Deicide which is truly Satanic

You guys are getting me interested in Alice, whomst I never paid attention to before.

Yup, some are just plain evil. However a lot of em are just all show. They feel like they have to rebel. Interesting note, Tom Araya lead singer for Slayer is a practicing Catholic. Saw him in the same documentary and they asked about one of their album titles. His comment was God doesn’t hate, it just made a cool album title and song that pissed people off. He has a farm and a family. When he is not on the road apparently he works on gia farm and listens to Country, lol. Not saying it is right, the album title, but just that he isn’t Satanic.
