Hey everyone for lent and specifically ash Wednesday’s and Friday’s are we supposed to obstain from marital intercourse? I was unsure the whole guidelines for fasting?

I do not believe that the fasting guidelines have anything pertaining to married couples. The guidelines only concern food and age limits. However, to abstain from intercourse as a part of Lenten asceticism is applaudable.

No.
I was unsure the whole guidelines for fasting?
In the Latin Rite Catholic Church, fasting pertains to quantity of food. Abstinence refers to abstinence from meat.

Neither involves any other sort of fast or abstinence.

This may not be the case in other Rites or Churches (such as Orthodox).

Lent is a perfect time to conceive a child, don’t you think? Feast of Annunciation (incarnation of Jesus) often occurs during Lent.

In Church history, in latin rite, abstinence for lent included abstinence for marital intercourse during all the time of Lent.

It was respected by the faithfull, so there is very few births 9 mouths later. Historians of the XVI- XVIIIe century can note that by examining baptismal records.

Saint Louis, the king of France had a calendar of marital abstinence which include Lent, christains obligations holidays among others.

I don’t know when this rules breaks. I am uncertain if they were always lived in the XIX century, based on my historical examinations of pastoral letters.

If anyone can help?

Today abstinence for Lent cannot be harmfull, It is always lived in Orthodox Christianity.

Absolutely not! It’s a meat abstinence on Ash Wed and Friday’s of Lent, not sexual abstinence.

“Applaudable” only if both partners agree. One partner cannot unilaterally impose this on the other.
