I am searching for information regarding the responsibilities of spouses to their vocation. Specifically, my parents are at two different stages in there spiritual life and my father spends all of his spare time at the adoration chapel while neglecting to spend time with my mother. She understands his desire to spend time with our Lord, but at the same time my father needs to understand that he is not a contempletive under religious vows. If any of you know of any websites or church writings or anything that might be helpful in supporting my mother’s plea for balance in my father’s life, I would be most appreciative. Thank you and God Bless.

This reminds me of Venerables Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of St. Therese, the Little Flower. They both had wanted to be monastics, but ended up marrying, then living as brother and sister. A priest talked to them about it, and they apparently threw themselves into it 110 percent, because they had something like 8+ kids. Only 5 lived, but all became nuns.

Ask the intercession of the Venerable Martins before talking to dad. I think mom is the one who needs to say something. IMHO, dad is willfully neglecting his Daily Duty. Wifey comes first. Even Jesus would tell him that.

HTH.

Blessings,
Cloisters
