Can someone explain why Christ said was upset about being called good and then said only God is good. Was He not ready to say He was God yet?

Here is a logical explaination
Ver. 18. None is good. Of himself, entirely and essentially, but God alone: men may be good also, but only by a participation of God’s goodness. (Challoner)
Ver. 20. We must recollect, that to the faithful observers of the Mosaic law, not only present goods were given, but the happiness of a future life promised. Hence our Lord with reason inquired, whether he had kept the commandments. The innocent life of this young man is deserving of our imitation. (Ven. Bede)

Who says He was upset? He simply asked why the questioner called Him good (which was undoubtedly true) and said that only God is good. Leaving it to the hearers to infer that He was in fact claiming to be God.Can someone explain why Christ said was upset about being called good and then said only God is good. Was He not ready to say He was God yet?
There are several instances of what is called the ‘Messianic secret’, where He orders people (often evil spirits) who are calling Him ‘son of God’ or ‘messiah’ or what have you to not reveal who He is, or orders them to keep secret particular events that indicated Godly status, like the Transfiguration.
Indeed it appears that before a certain point, before His mission was complete, He was unwilling to shorten His time by openly declaring Himself. When the time was right, though, He didn’t hesitate, as the occasions in Jerusalem where He forgave sins or claimed to have existed before Abraham.
