Mark 14, 51-52 Who is this certain man?

Who is this certain man? that followed after Jesus’s arrest. What’s the meaning of this passage? Thank you in advance and my kind regards to all.

51. And a certain young man followed withhim, having a linen cloth cast about him, over (his)naked (body): and they lay hold of him;
52. but he leff the linen cloth, and fled naked

The commentary from one of my Study Bibles first states how fleeing naked is a great shame and humiliation, it points to Ezk 16:39 and Am 2:16. It then goes on to state that some think this young man was James while others think it was John, the youngest of the Apostles.

But then it goes on to speak of a literary device of the time where the writer will not give his own name (it references Lk 24:13 and Jn 21:24) so those who believe this think that the young man is Mark. It goes on to point out that this incident is not in the other Gospels and uses this as evidence for this as the other wirters would not wish to humiliate Mark but that Mark would have been more likely to relate such an event concerning himself.

He is writing about me (about us) failing to follow in times of trouble or in fear of being persecuted. Do we stand up and fight for our faith and for our Lord or do we sit by silently praying or even “flee naked” into the night?

Once on Catholic Answers Live radio show, Karl Keating said some commentaries consider this to be Mark writing about himself in the third person, whimsically.

Most early Christian traditions that I’ve heard hold that this is Mark.

There seemed to be some significance to the “nakedness”. If a sentry or guard was caught unawares or asleep at his watch, he was stripped and sent home naked.
