“Works” is a part of the protestant church, it does exist in the protestant church it’s just called something else. We call it living out our faith so that it does not become a focus on count and measure but rather on purpose. I’m not saying that Catholics are concerned with count, I am only saying that we have taken that measure as a safe guard against it.
This is what I mean by Catholics and Protestants speaking a different language.
Yes most definitely that is something to remember…
Yes I know that protestants are passionate about helping others, as are Catholics. As I said earlier that we are the hands and feet for Christ in the world. And although there is no counting, if we are to be like Christ, there should be some sacrifice involved. I heard it put yesterday to ‘give till it is felt’. And I believe Jesus puts it in perspective when talking about the woman who didn’t have much but she gave all she had and with that I think I’ll put that scripture on here.
The Widow’s Offering
Mark 12:41 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
And another, not to offend anyone but because I LOVE scriptures…
Matthew 20:24 When the ten heard it, they were angry with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 26 It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
