I was sharing with someone how I tabbed and highlighted my Bible and I was told that that was sacrilege that that was like throwing away a rosary and I thought to myself no it’s not the Bible is meant to be a teaching book and all I did was tab each book of the Bible and made extra tabs to put on it for certain scriptures that pop out like he has risen, etc

It would be the responsibility of the person making the charge to show you from official Church teaching that highlighting/tabs are sacrilege.

The Church defines for us in the Catechism:

2120 Sacrilege consists in profaning or treating unworthily the sacraments and other liturgical actions, as well as persons, things, or places consecrated to God. Sacrilege is a grave sin especially when committed against the Eucharist, for in this sacrament the true Body of Christ is made substantially present for us.

While a Bible may have been blessed, books are not consecrated. Neither are sacramentals like rosaries.

To me I find it an easier way to study the Bible and if there’s something that in my daily life sticking out and I know it’s tabbed the Bible I can flip to that little tab and read the scripture again :grin:and find it alot easier and faster 🙂
but I feel like isn’t the main point of all this is the Bible is being studied 😁

In my Protestant days, I knew people who would burn their Bible if it touched the ground.

I think your Bible is beautiful. It shows that you are serious in your pursuit to study God’s word.

The bible is a tool for our use and benefit. How we approach that is entirely up to us. My first bible was filled with highlights and notes, as are most of the books I read. If it makes finding things easy and personalized then it should be done. I think yours looks fabulous. 😀

I bought a specific large red (more pinkish really) pencil to underline specific passages in my Bible when I read it from cover to cover - to highlight important passages especially if this was something I felt God was wanting to point out to me at the time.

Amen. 🙏🙂 That’s how it is for me. I should of told her I’m not going to ignore what Father I’d pointing out to me.

Didn’t occur to me to ‘tab’ my Bible - though I have done this in my Catechism - just makes my finding things a whole lot easier rather than trying to find it in the Index.

So many people’s Bibles just sit around, rarely opened with some even collecting dust. I think it’s awesome that you study your Bible and make it your own. I don’t tab my Bibles, but trust me, if you look within their pages you’ll find ALL kinds of highlights and notes. A Bible is meant to be used and it is at each person’s discretion how they choose to use their Bible as long as it’s done reverently. That’s my 2 cents … for whatever it’s worth. 😉

Wow! It’s like a recipe book. A recipe for every need. I love it! It shows your close, intimate relationship with God’s Word. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Keep it up.

The first Catholic Bible I ever had, is full of underlined verses. The one I use for personal use is not, but I don’t have a problem with it, it’s just I found other ways to take notes on those things, and to start remembering the verses in my head. I don’t think it’s sacrilegious to write in your Bible, what is wrong with writing in the written word? I have an app on my phone, and it’s a Douay Rheims Bible, and I can highlight the verses and take notes on them, without actually writing in my Bible. I think it all boils down to preference, some people might have issue with it, but it’s not sacrilegious. By the way, I can tell you that a lot of people who do religious debates, take notes in their Bibles. Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant.
