Hello,

I hear a lot in this sub-forum that the Maronite Church was “Latinized.” Can anyone tell me what it was like before that, then, or direct me to books or links that talk about it? For example, did they use the filioque? Did the priest face the East?

Thank you 🙂

See The Maronites in History By Matti Moosa.

He lists what changed in particular, here are some of the original disciplines or pratices:
  • Baptism by immersion.
  • Forty days waiting after giving birth before attending church.
  • Baptism and Chrismation given together, by priest.
  • Bishops not dispensing indulgences.
  • Use of leavened bread for the Eucharist.
