A lady on the RCIA course that I help at is hoping to enter the church at Easter. The problem is that she and her Catholic husband “Married” in a civil ceremony some time back.
Our local Priest has told her that she can not be received into the Church until her Marriage has been blessed or validated.
She wants to wait till she is Received into the Church before she Marries in the eyes of the Church.
Obviously they would have to live as brother and sister until this happens.
Is it possible to do what she wishes or not :confused
Any thoughts please and could you please quote Church documents 👍 :

It really depends on the circumstances. If there are prior marriages for either the process of annulment must first be completed for all prior marriages. It may be that the pastor has some reason to think that she might not validate the Marriage after she is received? One year we had someone who did the same thing and they were Baptized, Confirmed, Holy Communion and exchanged their vows for Marriage at the Easter Vigil but then there were only three people in the RCIA at that parish.

you or the catechist cannot help her, she must go the the pastor and follow his advice. She cannot receive the sacraments while she is objectively in a state of mortal sin, and it is the priest, not the catechist or RCIA director who makes that determination, and who counsels her on how to proceed. Until the pastor says she is ready to receive the sacraments, she is not ready. By the way, if she is already Catholic, she is not in RCIA, although she may be in a class for adults preparing for Confirmation and/or first communion. Since her status is fuzzy, and all info is not in OP that is also a distinction to be made by the priest.
