I will be getting married in July, and we would like to have our marriage blessed by Pope Benedict. Does anyone know how to go about this, or have they had it done? thanks

Speak to your parish about obtaining a Papal Blessing – my mother got us ours so I don’t know the specifics, but I’m sure she sent a check about 6mos out at least? It’s fairly common, and a beautiful gift that I see every morning when I come down. It’s nice to know JPII is praying for me and my DH

Our marriage was blessed by the Pope as well. A friend, former nun, arranged it. I have no idea how she went about it but our Apostolic Blessing was the BEST gift I rec’d for my wedding, aside from the groom, of course!

Anon~

Are you talking about some certificate you send away for, or that thing where you go to the Vatican in your wedding dress?

Mine is a picture of the Pope with our names and it says "His Holiness Pope John Paul II paternally impacts his apostolic blessing as a pledge of divine graces and favors upon _________ and _________ on the occasion of their wedding ____-(date)

It’s beautiful

You need to do it at least 3-4 months prior as that is how long it takes.
We got a papal blessing for our wedding from Pope John Paul II and it is in a beautiful frame in the eat-in area of our kitchen, so we can see it daily.
If I remember, we asked our Parish priest and he put in the request through the Bishop to Rome. And then the blessing was sent to the parish and we got it framed and during the wedding our Parish priest read out the Papal Blessing and presented it to us.

PS - could not find anything about obtaining the Papal Blessing.
But here is how you go in person

You need to go thru your Diocese.

Call your Bishop’s office and they will help you do this. There will be someone who knows the procedure and typically handles this. Obtaining these blessings is fairly common.

Thanks for all of the help. I did not make my question clear though. We are going to Rome for our honeymoon, and would like to have our marriage blessed by Pope Benedict himself.

The santasusanna site has details. It sounds like Papa Ratzi (I don’t say that out of disrespect) didn’t continue that tradition, but you can still get special tickets to the papal audience if you bring your marriage certificate within 2 mos.

I have a thread in the Water Cooler forum for newlyweds and to be weds to talk about all things wedding. 😃
