Is a person who is both civilly married and married in the church divorces, yet continues the conjugal relationship committing a sin?
In other words, does the Church require a civil marriage to be in place in order to be (remain) married in the Church?

UIn general, a couple who divorces civilly is giving a public witness-- remember marriage is a public institution not just a private one, a civil institution not just a religious one. You are contravening your marriage vows when you civilly divorce. If someone is doing that for public benefits, they are also committing fraud.

Any person considering something like this needs to talk to their pastor.

Thank you for the information. I didn’t figure it was kosher.
The inquiry isn’t for benefits, but other considerations.
