I didn’t know which section to post this in, but this seems as good as any place. I’m a Catholic and got married in a civil ceremony. I have recently come back to the Church and now want my marriage to be recognised by the Church and by God, but i don’t know how to go about it. Has anyone else gone through this process and can shed some light on what happens? I’d just really like to know, as i feel a little incomplete about it. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Without knowing more facts about your specific situation, such as whether you or your husband were previously divorced, I can’t say anything specific about your current civil marriage. But go talk to your pastor. He will ask you about what he needs to know and tell you what you can do.

Assuming there’s no impediment to your marriage (divorce, etc), it should be pretty straightforward getting it convalidated. Call your local parish office and tell them what you’re telling us. They’ll set you up and get you on track!

Welcome home, btw! 👍

No, this is the first marriage for both of us. No divorce involved on either sides. Thanks for the info. I’ll get in contact with my parish office asap. 👍

First welcome back to the Church! We are happy you are here! 🙂 (And I do not mean just CAF!)

Your first step would be to make an appointment with your priest and begin the process of getting your and your spouse’s previous attempts at marriage evaluated by your diocesan tribunal.

In the meantime, avail yourself of the sacraments. However, please check with your priest before receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord in the Holy Communion.

Welcome Home!

I am married to a non-catholic, have been for over 20 years now. We had our marriage blessed after we had been married 5 years. I had to go through the annulment process because I had been married before, but once that was done, we had our marriage blessed. Main thing is to contact a Priest and discuss what you would need to do to have your marriage blessed.
