Marriage Outside the Church

My sister is getting married outside the Church with no dispensation. She and her fiancé, both confirmed Catholics, decided they prefer the Protestant communities. Additionally, my sister plans to attend Catholic Mass after marriage because that’s just what the family does.

I’m deeply grieved over this. Weeping, praying, garment-rending grief.

I have already explained, gently, that I cannot participate in the wedding and that she will excommunicate herself by marrying outside the Church. What else can/should/must I say?

I’m not sure she knows what excommunication means, but I doubt she’ll listen to me anymore, as she sees religious discussions as a fight in which her interlocutor is always damning her.
 
Ask your priest to talk with her, he has a right to know if she is going to be approaching him for the sacraments while excommunicated.
 
An attempted marriage by a Catholic outside the Church is invalid. The parties are not married and are thus living in sin. As such they are not excommunicated, but are unable to receive the sacraments until they rectify the matter and make a good confession.
