I was reading this thread in the apologetics forum, and I’m now a bit confused. Is he saying that she needs to have her first marriage annulled by the Church because she had been baptised, or is there something else? I thought that the Church didn’t recognize any marriage that hadn’t been validated by the Church, and so there wouldn’t be any annullment needed?

The reason I’m asking is that I am taking the RCIA classes, and plan to become Catholic. I haven’t read much on marriage topics, but my boyfriend and I are planning to be married, and I’m wondering how my previous marriage and his would affect this? What are the factors? Or am I misunderstanding the above post?

The status of ANY previous marriages should be determined before entering the Church. (The Church does recognize the validity of non-Catholic marriages.) You should discuss this with the priest in charge of your RCIA program to see what actions need to be taken.
