Marriage Question

Hello all, My Brother and my Sister in law are about to go meet with the Priest. They are worried that because they dont know if they HAVE to get married through the Justice of the peace. Thank you fro your help.
 
Why would anyone have to get married through a justice of the peace? Are they Catholic? If so, a Catholic marriage is in order

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking, but having recently gone through the process with my non-Catholic now-hubby, the biggest issue with our priest was that we remain open to having children.
 
I thought that you haqd to get married through the Justice of the peace b4 you get married through the church?
 
From my understand though I would check with a priest if I were you (depend on state law) that you need to get a marriage licence first before getting married at a church… I don’t think that means a justice of the peace is needed b/c then the judges would be too busy to be in the court room if a justice is needed everytime a person gets married.

Nope. Just a marriage certificate, which doesn’t mean you’re married just yet.
 
To get married by a jp first if both parties are Catholic (or even one for that matter), they would not be allowed to receive any sacraments until after their marriage was blessed by the church. Catholics, to remain in good standing with the church, are to marry in the church and in the church only. Only the church can perform the SACRAMENT of marriage. A jp can’t perform sacraments

That rumor was started by the Justice of the Peace union in order to boost revnue. (just kidding)
