Neither my wife nor I know how to make things better between the two of us. This seems hopeless.

Counselling will help your marriage. It gives you someone objective to talk to, who is removed from the situation.

To be honest, I’ve stretched the limits some… I’m not proud of it, but lying to myself won’t help.

If you can get to marriage counseling, that might help. If your wife won’t go with you, maybe you could try individual counseling.

Perhaps you should post in the prayer request forum. You have many years of threads with advice for your marriage but you fail to mention if you have taken any of the hundreds of posts of advice. So all I can really offer is my prayers for your marriage.

We already are using medicine, therapy, counseling, and support networks. We’ve talked to priests, family members, etc. I think I may be the problem.

Well, the silver lining is that this has gone on for years but the marriage has not ended. What specifically about you is the problem?

If the therapies are not helping, change them. And why in the world was prayer not in your list?

Maybe the two of you need a date night?
Do the two of you have young children?

Maybe a priest can give you some on-going spiritual guidance and even marriage counseling.

You need to change your mindset. If you believe you are the problem, you are already rejecting what everyone is giving. Could you and your wife also see a therapist separately to work on yourselves? That’ll help you to be more positive.

Okay thanks. I will do all as suggested, if not already doing it. Prayer is of course the topmost choice. Thank you all for your time and consideration. If I caused any trepidation or confusion, I apologize unreservedly and wholeheartedly.

This is not a bad place to start, but without beating up on yourself. In any situation, the one person we have control over is ourselves, and if we improve that part of the situation, a lot of times the situation will dramatically improve.

Thus, I suggest doing your own reading about how you can be a better partner / spouse etc., regardless of what your spouse is doing, or what you are doing together.

Good luck.
