As a recently married Catholic I can say that priests often take a great deal of responsibility for the couple they choose to marry. No priest ever wants to see a couple he unites end in divorce or seperation. Marriage for a Catholic is until death, there is no other option. In accordance with this line of thinking, a parish has rules to prevent the worst, this is especially true in the US where in many states the priest is law bound during the act of marriage. Now as to weather or not a six month marriage is doable or not doable, I have seen it done, but only if the couple had already been discussing marriage with the priest before an impending life event and with the priest feeling fully comfortable with both individuals and knowing their commitment to Christ and to one another, in many cases they (the priest) may even seek guidance from their bishop for special permissions. A priest would never marry anyone whom he assumed could have reason for an annulment or divorce.
