My husband and I have been married 7 years. He was a strong Catholic when we were married, but in the past several months, it seems he feels separated from God. He has stopped going to confession as often, and then doesn’t receive the Eucharist on Sunday. We have talked that the more he stays away from the sacraments, the farther he will feel from God. As strange as it may sound, I feel like my family is under attack. The more I pray, the less he prays. The more I desire to talk about God, the less he wants to hear. He is a wonderful man that I feel like is getting crushed by his sinful nature, unwilling (unable?) to reach out and receive the strength he needs from God to overcome. Any suggestions? I am worried! I know I should keep praying, but I don’t know if there are other things I could do?

It is hard enough to undergo our own times of spiritual barreness, but in someways even harder to endure those of our loved ones.
Make sure he remains in conversation with the church, even when it feels like going through the motions. Just like we sometimes go through the motions at work, or taking care of home or kids, because we know we need to, same here. Many things could be causing this tough time. Be patient with it. It can’t be forced.

best to both of you,

cheddar
