Canon 1153 §§ 1-3 et seq states that if there is serious physical or psychological detriment to one of the spouses that person can leave. And the spousal connection restored as quickly as possible. And if under ecclesiastical law otherwise can be done. If someone is physically abuse can they be allowed to divorce and here’s the kicker. Would they be allow to remarry because the person changed? Say became an alcoholic or such.

Ok. I figured that. I was wondering if there was any way when married validly, if two people absolutely had to separate. That they could be remarried outside of death. I’m not a canon lawyer but I would say no.

But what about occasions that are not valid? They are probably only a handful.

Only death can dissolve a valid marriage between two baptized people (a sacramental marriage).

If one party is Catholic and the other party is unbaptized (a natural marriage), it is possible for the Pope to dissolve the bond through the Petrine Privilege in some cases.

But what about occasions that are not valid? They are probably only a handful.

If a marriage is not valid, the person can petition the Church for a decree of nullity. If the person is declared free to marry, then of course they can do so.
