If one were threatened death for confessing Christ, and that person denied Christ to avoid death, would that person go to hell as someone who refuses to deny the faith would go to heaven?

Funny, I had this chat with a protestant at work who said he would renounce Christ and then under his breath so he doesn’t mean it.

I completely disagreed with him but who has the strength to do it?

Good question.

They avoided death TEMPORARILY
“In spite of dungeon, fire & sword
we will be true to Thee till death”

Can this come about here ? Yeah, someday

Christ spoke about those who deny him before their fellow man.

Well, St Peter denied Jesus 3 times and could very well have ended up dead if he hadn’t. Don’t think anyone here would say that Peter didn’t end up in heaven.

The problem would come in if they were still executed without the opportunity to repent I would think.

Matthew chapter 10

“ But whosever shall deny me
before men ( for whatever reason )
him will I also deny, ( as a chicken bawk bawk )
before my Father which is in Heaven “

Oh man, imagine denying Christ, and they still kill you !
That would be bad.

CCC2473:
‘Martyrdom is the supreme witness given to the truth of the faith: it means bearing witness even unto death. The MARTYR bears witness to Christ who died and rose, to whom he is united by charity. He bears witness to the truth of the faith and of Christian doctrine. He endures death through an act of fortitude. ‘Let me become the food of the beasts, through whom it will be given me to reach God.’[St. Ignatius of Antioch, Ad Rom. 4, 1 SCh 10, 110.]’

I’ve heard people were actually inspired - by the Martyrs - when they watched them die.

Their example, under such extreme persecution, got people, looking on, convinced.
