Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This is the last paragraph in Chapter 17 of St. Louis de Montfort’s book, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom” However the book itself concludes with the text of St. Louis de Montfort’s “Consecration of Oneself to Jesus Christ Through the Hands of Mary” which God willing I hope to post tomorrow.
  1. Mary is wise: let us place everything in her hands. She knows how to dispose of us and all that we have for the greater glory of God. Mary is charitable: she loves us as her children and servants. Let us offer everything to her and we will lose nothing by it; she will turn everything to our gain. Mary is liberal: she returns more than we give her. Let us give her unreservedly all that we own without any reservation; she will give us a hundredfold in return. Mary is powerful: nothing on earth can take from her what we have placed in her keeping. Let us then commit ourselves to her care; she will defend us against our enemies and help us to triumph over them. Mary is faithful: she will not permit anything we give her to be lost or wasted. She stands alone as the Virgin most faithful to God and to men. She faithfully guarded and kept all that God entrusted to her, never allowing the least bit to be lost; and she still keeps watch every day, with a special care, over all those who have placed themselves entirely under her protection and guidance. Let us, then, confide everything to the faithful Virgin Mary, binding ourselves to her as to a pillar that cannot be moved, as to an anchor that cannot slip, or, better still, as to Mount Sion which cannot be shaken. Thus whatever may be our natural blindness, our weakness, and our inconstancy, however numerous and wicked our enemies may be, we shall never go wrong or go astray or have the misfortune to lose the grace of God and that infinite treasure which is Eternal Wisdom.
May God grant His Grace to all of us who have read and pondered the words given by God, to St. Louis de Montfort for the Church! May we continue to ponder as Mary pondered all in her heart, that Jesus said and did as God reveals to us. May each one grow closer to Jesus through Mary for His Glory, for the honor of the beautiful Mother God created and gave to us, for the good of the Church and the world. As one member of the Body of Christ grows in holiness, we all grow.

“O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in Your servants, in the spirit of Your holiness, in the fullness of Your power, in the perfection of Your ways, in the truth of Your virtues, in the communion of Your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in Your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.”

Why is Mary the guardian of the faith? While it is legitimate to pray to the Virgin for health, family, professional and relationship problems, there is an area where we should especially seek the help of Mary: to increase our faith.

Why this importance of faith in our prayer to Mary? Because of all the dimensions in which our lives unfold, none is more important than our relationship to God. Eternal life is the purpose of our life, the one to which all the rest must be subordinated. We should prefer the infinite joy that is God Himself above all the goods of this world. We were created to live with the Trinity, and to taste the infinite joy that is God’s alone. Since God wanted to be our happiness, nothing is more important in this life than the relationships we have with Him.

No saint is more qualified than the Virgin Mary to educate us and show us how to maintain the vital link of faith with our Creator. Not only has no creature been so close to God as she was, but moreover, the sin of doubt and suspicion of her Creator having never reached Mary, she has always tasted the joy of one who walks with God in perfect intelligence and love. For this reason, our education in the virtue of faith and love of God is the most precious gift that the Virgin can give us.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen.

A special thanks to our Blessed Mother for the wonderful graces granted this past week! Never has it been known…

Peace

Hi Taylor53, Welcome to CAF.

I would ask that you kindly don’t bash Mary on the threads thanking and honoring her on the Spirituality forum. It’s inappropriate here. If you would like to debate Mary’s role, please go to the Apologetics forum and start an appropriate thread there. Thank you.

I would note that many of us on CAF love Mary, we don’t agree with your position, and there is nothing to debate…posting your opinion here is just being rude for no purpose.

Don’t pray for others then… Oh wait
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16

His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” John 2:6

Yes, it does seem pretty clear, as it was to the first Christians: Mary is the model disciple.

Christ is the Mediator between us and His Father.
Mary is the Mediatrix between us and Christ.
Just as she was on earth at Cana.

Thank you, Mary, for all your help! I pray that all people eventually come to love and appreciate you and your special role.

This is extremely consoling–that despite our natural blindness, weakness, and inconstancy, we will not go wrong or lose Jesus if we give ourselves entirely to Mary, and continue to practice this total devotion to her.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Dear patricius,

How grateful I am to God for giving Jesus to us through Mary as our Mother and Model! She is only a human person, as we are; and yet, God has given her the unique privilege to be the Mother of the Word Incarnate. Jesus was conceived in her Immaculate womb by the power of the Holy Spirit.

As St. Louis wrote and as you quoted: “Let us confide everything to the faithful virgin Mary, binding ourselves to her as to a pillar that cannot be moved …” She cannot be moved because she is so perfectly united to Jesus in Love. He has given her so much to share with us and with which to safeguard us ! Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of Your faithul ; kindle in us the Fire of Your Love! Jesus we trust in You! Immaculate Heart of Mary, I am all yours, keep me, guard me as your child, always.

Dear hazcompat,

Thanks for the quote fromJean-Michel Castaing, on Mary. It seems to me that every gift of God to Mary is so beautiful that it is difficult to choose among all of her virtues which is the most precious – they all are. Certainly the gift of Supernatural Faith is very important and we need to pray to Mary, as the author suggests, to help us safeguard our faith. I think I would next cite her humility which is unmatched by any other Saint. Jesus told us to learn from Him to be Meek and Humble of Heart, (cf Mt 11:29) and Mary learned so perfectly! 🙂

Yes, MariaChristi. She, as you say, safeguards us. She herself gives us the graces which inspire us to stay close to her, despite all our weaknesses.

I remember this quotation from “The Secret of Mary”:
Happy, a thousand times happy, is the soul here below to which the Holy Ghost reveals the Secret of Mary in order that it may come to know her…Since God is present everywhere, He may be found everywhere, even in Hell, but nowhere do we creatures find Him nearer to us and more adapted to our weakness than in Mary, since it was for that end that He came and dwelt in her. Everywhere else He is the Bread of the strong, the Bread of the Angels, but in Mary He is the Bread of children.
THE SECRET OF MARY
I can’t embrace the crosses God sends me by myself. But I can with Mary’'s help. I go back to that wonderful quotation from earlier in the book, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”:
All those to whom Eternal Wisdom gave himself have desired the Cross, sought after it, welcomed it. Whatever sufferings came their way, they exclaimed from the depths of their heart with St. Andrew, "O wonderful Cross, so long have I yearned for you!"

Dear Tis_Bearself,

I think one of the Moderators on CAF may have removed the post of Tayor53 – reading your reply to that person, I would have flagged it and asked, as you did, that if anyone wants to debate they need to go to the Apologetics Forum. It is inappropriate to debate here the role God gave to Mary.

Thank you for defending our Mother. By God’s grace, may all her sons and daughters stand ready to defend her. 🙂

Ah yes, dear Edwyn,

Thanks for posting that lovely scripture. By God’s Grace, let us always seek to do good to others and pray for all those in need.

Dear Thom and Edwyn

Apologies – I clicked Thom’s name when replying to Edwyn, a moment ago; but I’m grateful to you both. You both gave us beautiful words from Scripture to ponder as we seek to love and honor our Mother Mary.

Dear patricius,

St. Louis de Montfort had such grace to “see” the beauty of Mary’s Motherhood, both at the cross and at the moment of her humble “Yes” to God – which opened her womb to the power of the Holy Spirit and the conception within her of the Incarnate Son of God.

Each time we hear Jesus tell us from His Cross, “Behold your Mother” we too by God’s grace can “see” her love for her Child and for us her children He died to save. We can “see” her strength which comes from Him, and the strength she shares with us.

Thanks again for your reply and the quotes. 🙂

Amen to that. I still have temptations, but I am so grateful to have Mary’s help now. She was always helping me. But since I’ve been consecrated to her and simply invoke her frequently, she is able to share her strength with me much more.

Dear patricius,

Thanks for sharing your own experience of Mary’s giving you her strength to overcome temptaions! I wonder sometimes why people do not realize that most Mothers want to share all they have with their children – not only while they carry a child in their womb but throughout their lives. When God created the first woman Eve, he brought her to Adam to be his “helper”. Sadly Eve fell prey to the deceit of satan and both she and her husband fell.

God in His Love promised (cf Gen 3:15) Mary would bring Jesus to conquer sin and save us. It seems to me that satan continues to “prowl around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (cf 1 Pet 5:8) he seeks both men and women who are vulnerable and tempts us all. I either read or saw in a video on the life of St. Louis de Montfort, that on his deathbed he spoke out loud to satan saying: "It is done; you can tempt me no more I am bewteen Jesus and Mary. He held in one hand his crucifix and in in his other had his small statue of Mary.

May God give us his grace to live with that same confidence in Jesus and Mary that we do not give in to our fears – because weak as we are, we belong to Jesus and Mary, and in our weakness they give us all the strength we need. Pope St. John Paul II was wise in choosing his Papal Motto from the words of St. Louis de Montfort: " Totus Tuus" translated meaning: “All Yours”. We give all to Jesus through Mary.

Thanks, MariaChristi. Yes, she helps me to identify that my anxiety is a temptation and helps me to work through it.

Yes! When we give ourselves and all we have to Mary, she gives all of herself and all that she has to us! This is beyond words. We can ask her to trust Jesus as she trusts Jesus, to love our neighbor as she loves her neighbor. Jesus said he’ll give us all true graces that we ask for, if we ask with faith. Mary gives us this faith.

Yes, satan prowls around to kill and destroy. But Mary constantly follows every human to help them.

Some of us are more vulnerable to deceptions, and are weaker, than others, it seems to me. But Mary has special compassion for those, such as myself. And St. Louis said what is true: that we can’t fall seriously into deception if we are devoted to Mary
weak as we are, we belong to Jesus and Mary, and in our weakness they give us all the strength we need.
Amen.
