Mary Magdalene was an apostle? is that what the movie claims?

She has been called “The Apostle to the Apostles,” by Pope Francis. 😊
I may be a bit biased as she is my Patron Saint

Have you seen the trial? It is a scene in which an Apostle is angry that she has been “raised by Jesus to lead them” instead of St. Peter like the Scripture says. I wouldn’t be shocked if at the core would be that Jesus was betrayed because Judas was a mysogynist while Jesus wanted to create a feminist revolution…

Just betting. I couldn’t even finish watching the trailer.

This is another movie being released that does not challenge Scriptures and known tradition of the Church as far as we know:

In what way does it challenge sacred tradition? I know it is being touted by the Kof C as a worthwhile film.

Well this is troubling and looks to be a film with an obvious agenda.Dont think I will bother seeing it.

Oops sorry! I meant to say it doesn’t challenge. Thank you for your reply I have to edit mine!!

Judas Iscariot was mad at Mary Magdalene because she bought the expensive spikenard on Jesus and anointed him. He wanted her to use her money “to help the poor.” (Judas Iscariot was in charge of most of the money.) Guess who used the money to his advantage instead?
Mary Magdalene also was not believed by all the Apostles when she reported that Jesus had risen. At that time and place a woman’s word was not sufficient.

Me too. I haven’t seen a film being made recently about biblical themes that isn’t trying to shock in some way in a while.

Someone told me that in this movie… Mary has either a romantic relationship with Jesus or an implied one… I wondered if this is true… I don’t want to see it if that is the case.

I did not see that in the trailer. I do believe they had a close relationship. But not a romantic one. Because she was with Him to the end.

Yes I didn’t see it in the trailer either. I also know they had a close spiritual relationship but I would be horrified if they butchered that and made it so low as to be romantic in a movie 😉 but you know Hollywood. So I will wait and see first. My friend is quite sure it is in the movie. Still I shall try to remain objective and wait and see what people who have seen it say. Thank you for your reply, that is also what I think.

According to the critics of the Rotten Tomatoes aggregate, the movie is likely a bust. No Oscars here.

I don’t think I’ll be seeing it either! Which is a shame, I was looking forward to it. Mary Magdalene is one of my favorite saints.

In my opinion…no Oscars don’t mean anything. The general public certainly don’t hold any sway for my taste in movies.

I agree I would like to see an accurate portrayal of her,As Kathleen stated she was very close to Christ and the first to discover his empty tomb.I just am not interested in seeing a film where more that what was in her relationship to Christ is implied
