Mary was called Theotokos in Greek, meaning Mother of God. the Church understands that God had no beginning or end, but that is not what Theotokos was about. It was an answer to Christ’s question “Who do you say I am?”
We believe that Christ was truly God and truly man, and that He was thus from His conception. Prior to His conception, Jesus did not exist, but the Second Person of the Trinity existed, from all time and before time; John’s Gospel calls Him The Word: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was wtih God, and the Word was God.
In the early Church, as they were struggling with the question Jesus asked, some held that he was only God, and that He only had the appearance of a man; others denied His divinity, or denided that He had that from conception.

It follows from the fact that Mary is the mother of Jesus that Mary is the mother of God. Why? Because Jesus is God. The divinity of Christ is an absolutely fundamental tenet of Christianity.
So when we say that Mary is the mother of God, we are actually making more of a statement about her Son than we are about Mary herself.

No, this does not say that Mary is the Mother of God the Father the first person of the Trinity.
It says that Mary is the Mother of God the Son, the Second person of the Trinity.
Remember that the Doctrine of the Trinity says that we believe that there are three distinct and separate persons in One God. Mary only gave birth to one of those persons.

THEOTOKOS means GOD-BEARER in Greek… the one who carried God, NOT the MOTHER of God…

Actually God-Bearer means the same as bearing a child and so is translated as the “*Birth-Giver of God.” *She gave birth to God the Son the Second person of the Trinity. This is where the “Mother” comes from anyone giving birth to a person is that persons mother.

Last time I checked a biology book, a human who carried (a child) from conception to birth was a woman, and we name those women “mothers”.
I took Homeric and koinae Greek, but didn’t think he was looking for a literal translation, but rather a theological understanding. and while you are correct that the literal translation is God-Bearer, we generally translate such phrases in a non-literal fashion. Further, it may seem to us that saying she bore God would mean that she is not the mother of God, but the majority of women who bear a child give birth and are then referred to as mothers. If we said that she bore Christ, would we not then say that she was the mother of Christ?
With the exception of Christ, we generally (other than adoption) refer to the individual in whom the child was conceived as the mother. And while the term Theotokos literally means “God-Bearer”, I would submit that the Early Eastern Churches very clearly referred to Mary as the Mother of God; Theotokos being the word of art in theology to explain the unique concept.

In the Eastern Church, specifically, Old Church Slavonic, She is o referred to as the BOHORODICE, the God-Bearer or the One Who gave Birth, AND MATER BOHA, the Mother of God, clearly 2 DIFFERENT TITLES using different words…

Mathew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel,” (which means God with us).
Luke 1:35: “the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.”
If one denies Mary is the Mother of God, whether he realizes it or not, he is denying the Incarnation. He is saying that Jesus is not God, or that Jesus is two persons: one human, one divine.

Right. If Mary is not the mother of God, then Jesus is not God.
The Second Person of the Trinity, God the Son, chose his Mother. He chose Mary.

She is not the mother of the Father, but she is the mother of God. Christ is fully God in himself, therefore, Mary is the mother of God.
Mary is the daughter of the Father, the mother of the Son, and the spouse of the Holy Spirit.

It really does not matter whether Theotokos means mother of God, in the council of Ephesis the Church anathematized anyone who refused to call Mary “the mother of God” because by refusing to give Mary this title you deny the incarnation of Christ. One of the heresies that this struck down was the Nestorian heresy which believed Christ was not God until his baptism. It is heresy and it was condemned at Epheses.
