I am on a library computer and the quality of this post is gonna be poor but, last night I was reading the verse where it says that john took her to ‘‘his own.’’
I know that the protestants belief is easily refuted regardless but I saw that the greek word for ‘‘his own’’ (idios )also means ‘‘several’’, I’m not in any way educated in the Bible, just your normal average joe who likes to study it privately at home, so I really hope I’ll be corrected somehow should I be wrong.
so in my veiw several means more than just himself, and as the Catholic church already teaches, to all us disciples of the Lord the Lord gave us his mother through John and ‘‘his own’’ means more than just john. any thoughts for discussion anyone?
can I finally say that, being a follower of Jesus, John had given up his home and everything he owned to follow Jesus, and I doubt he would of travelled thousands of miles from Ephesus to follow Jesus, tradition has it he took mary to ephesus ( that I beleive ) but I dont beleive thats the home he took her too and that the words ‘‘his own’’ cannot be read literally but only spiritually.

“His own” is both literal and spiritual; as with most things Catholic, it’s not an either/or situation. The Blessed Mother needed a home and thus Mary was given to John’s care (God taking care of practical matters) - and he to hers. Spiritually, of course, we know that she has also been given into our care (e.g., to defend her prerogatives as the Mother of God) and that all of those in Christ are held in her maternal and Immaculate Heart.
