Mary, Star of the New Evangelization

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Both Bl. John Paul II and our present Pope Benedict VI have invoked Our Lady as the “Star of the New Evangelization”. I wonder how many of us, and/or how many of our parishes are invoking her under that title. I wonder how many of us, for that matter, realize that we share in Mary’s vocation to bring the Good News, Who is Jesus, to others.

Thanks for your reply. Did you have a particular verse of scripture in mind? Could you share which of the four Gospels you might be referring to and explain the reference?

I thought that the Popes were speaking allegorically, in terms of Christ as the Day and Mary coming before Him as a “morning star” perhaps. I can see how truly she can be called the Star of the New Evangelization because the Church exists to evangelize; we are to bring Christ as Mary brought Him into the world.
