is Mary the queen of heaven figuratively or a theological theory; how does her position works.
 
Mary is considered Queen of Heaven in both Catholic and Orthodox doctrine. She is neither above her son nor equal to her son. She is not the sovereign. Since Jesus’ kingdom is the fulfillment of the Davidic Kingdom, one can consider her role to be a fulfillment of the idea of the Queen Mother. In Near East kingdoms it was common for kings to have many wives, so the woman who was queen was not any of them but his mother. Solomon and the other kings of Judah gave their mother this position and treated them with high respect. Many of their names (relatively) are recorded in Biblical accounts. They were often a voice of the people and a mother to the nation. But their son was still their King.

But this isn’t only a case of paralleling the idea of Queen Mother, but a very high honor bestowed upon one of God’s most precious works. Mary was pure of heart, without sin, was consecrated by God to bear God in a more direct and personal way than the Ark of the Covenant or Holy of Holies did.

Mary is still only a human being. She is not Divine. God did not give her His nature or change her nature. She is still a creation. And everything she does is in service to Christ. She worships him and prays to him always.
