Masons in st. patrick's day parade

i was at a st. patrick’s day parade this weekend (new orleans) and was surprised to see the shriners leading the parade. when i asked the shriner if he was a mason, he said yes and that he could be catholic and be a mason.

i know st. patrick’s day parades are very secularized, but to let the masons lead the parade is really stupid.

I live near a Scottish Rite Cathedral. For years I was fascinated by the building, because it featured an enormous windowless tower. For years I thought, “What do the Masons have in that tower?”

One day I was invited to the building, and one of the Masons gave me a tour. It turned out that the tower was above a stage, and the tower contained backdrops for plays performed on that stage.

“What kind of plays?,” I asked.

“Oh, we do skits as part of our initiation. Skits about the early history of the Masons. You know, about things like how the pope collaborated with the King of France to cheat our predecessors the Templars out of all of their property, and how the Templars were falsely arrested and accused by a corrupt papacy. That papacy – that’s one rotten apple!”

No he can’t. The masons may let him, but it is against the Catholic Church. There are other threads that talk about this alot.

I doubt that his pastor / bishop is aware of his mason status.
