I just need some (name removed by moderator)ut here. A neighbor has passed away. I know he was raised Catholic and I’d like to send a Mass card. But his daughter and her family aren’t Catholic and are very hostile toward Jesus. I’ve heard jokes about them wanting to draw mustaches on a Jesus statue, for example. I’m hesitant to send them the Mass card. Should I send in the $ and intention to the religious community and just throw away the Mass card?

You could send in the money and keep the card to remember your neighbor by and pray for him.

If you don’t send the Mass card you could send a note saying that you’ll be praying for the neighbor and family. Even if they don’t appreciate the prayers, they should at least appreciate the thoughtful support.

I’m not sure about that. One of the last conversation I had with one of them , I was told to shove my bible up …somewhere… This person said he was saying what everyone else wanted to say but were to afraid to say it. But I will be praying for him…

After reading the exchanges, I agree with you, @Iwest, that @Irishmom2 has offered you a perfect solution for honoring your neighbor with a Mass and looking at the card as you remember him in future years. It’s better to avoid a confrontation or occasion of unpleasant memories for you with those he’s left behind. May God bless you for your kindness.

Thanks. I agree. That’s what I’ll do. He was a sweet guy. 97 years old.

I could but I think a religious community praying for his soul would be more beneficial to him, no?
