We drove back from a funeral a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. We’ve been making a concerted effort to watch mass online and spend at least a couple hours of devotion of some sort from home because we have a newborn. Other than the funeral we’ve stayed home almost entirely in order to not expose our new little guy. However in the day we drove back we didn’t spend our regular devotional time and didn’t watch mass. Is this a sin like missing mass? Our Bishop had suspended the obligation for Sunday mass, so I don’t know if a spiritual communion and virtual mass holds the same obligation or not. Simply because of our situation this week and living in a rural area we weren’t able to make it to confession and there is none tomorrow before mass, (the diocese suspension being lifted this Sunday) so we aren’t sure if we should receive communion or not. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter!

There is no obligation to watch a virtual Mass or to do spiritual Communion. If you are in a state of grace receive the Lord with gladness and pray for those who can’t. God bless you

No. If your bishop dispensed of the obligation, then it was dispensed. It was not replaced with a different obligation.

If the Bishop has suspended the obligation, it’s not a sin to miss Mass, including TV Mass. Congrats on your newborn! Stay safe.
