The Governor-Elect of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, who will be sworn into office on 1/4/07, has issued a public statement urging state legislators to ignore their duty to vote (today) on sending an amendment to the constitution forward towards an ultimate ballot measure to ban gay marriage. Patrick is a very liberal politician who favors gay marriage, abortion, and embryonic stem cell research. It’s a close call on whether the legislators will allow a vote on this measure and if it wasn’t for outgoing Govenor Mitt Romney, who filed a lawsuit to help pressure the legislator to vote, it probably wouldn’t have even had a chance. Pray that this amendment will move forward in the process and that ultimately the people will be allowed to vote down the travesty of same-sex marriage.

The legislators have just voted to send the iniative forward to the next session. Thus keeping this question on track to be on the ballot in 2008:clapping:

is is intructive to see how very hard the people who want to change the definition of marriage try and make sure the people never get to vote on it.

What does it say for our Governor-elect to encourage the legislators to violate the state constitution. Truly it is sad for those of us who have worked through the system to be ignored by those elected officials now that the elections are over!

On the way home I was flipping through the AM stations to find any news on this issue. The Howie Carr show (wrko local Boston station) announced that the People’s Republic of Massachusetts passed the measure. Though the bill has to be voted on again next year to move on to the ballot in 2008.

I highly doubt the population of Mass. would vote it down anyways. Gay marriageis here to stay. Look at Arizona during this last election, and it does not even have legalized gay marriage.

Thanks be to God.
