I really enjoyed reading this and felt inspired to share it. This eloquent piece is NOT intended to engender any scrupulosity about Advent. (“Did I put up the Christmas tree too soon? Is it a sin to go Christmas shopping?”) Leave those concerns at the door and just reflect on the meaning and beauty of doing something completely counter-cultural: Waiting for the light of Christ, and savoring the wait.

Retail is an arms race to set up before the other store. I overhear conversations like “We got a pallet of <Halloween, Christmas, etc> in the back”.

An interesting essay woven of many threads like a Christmas tapestry.
