A friend was telling me that her Mother told that once she reached the age of 59 she would not have to attend Sunday Mass. In fact she said this was verified by a Priest, I was dumfounded to say the least. I said unless you were sick or physical unable to attend, you were required to fulfill you obligation. Couldn’t find her interpretation anywhere. She quite adamant about it

No, there is no age limit on the obligation to attend Mass. The only limit is our physical limitations. Someone who is frail, sick, incapacitated, etc. is excused but if someone is physically able to get to Mass then they have an obligation to do so.

There might be some confusion of Mass obligation with the Lenten rules of fasting which do contain an age limit (60).
