Thanks DJK1000, there actaully is a LM parish but unfortunatly its about 45 miuntes away and i cant afford it.
I don’t know what your situation is but perhaps you can carpool. Talk to your classmates in RCIA and see if any would be intereted in seeing a Latin Mass and then set a date to go. Hopefully this would offset any costs.

I hope you don’t think I am overstepping my bounds with suggestions, I just think that it is improtant, at least for you in particular, to see a really reverant worship. Not everyone needs that kind of environment to fully relate to and feel God’s present but you and I seem to need those things to really help us focus. That is why I really want to help you find a way to at least see one if you can.

If you want I can keep brainstorming with you. Also, I edited one of my last post so I don’t know if you saw it but I gave you a suggestion of contacting the Diocese and requesting that they celebrate a Latin Mass every once in a while at the Cathedral so that people like yourself can have access to it.

No your definently not overstepping, those are good ideas. Yea I saw the website and went on there, but as it turns out im in the Dio. of Ft. Worth so I’ll have to ask them. Yea I think we are the same when it comes to worship because I like to focus, I guess its just the way I was raised (Church of Christ then going to Anglo-Catholic). Down the road, I wonder if I would be able to ask if we could do a LM or a more reverent Mass once a month or something for the people who are interested? The priest seems really nice, only met him once, but me and him talked about the Didache and some other early church things, and the RCIA top lady knows that I consider myself pretty traditional so Im hoping this “networking” kinda helps lol

Sorry, for some reason I thought you were located in Dallas. Oh well. Yeah, like you I really like the solementy of the Mass and don’t get as much out of it if I let the music distract me. I don’t know how you came to the Church but it might even help you more if you read more about the Mass so you have the greatest possible understanding of what is happening. I know a lot of people think that Mass is just Jesus becoming present in the Eucharist. Which is true but there is so much more to the mass. It is truly an extraordinary celebration with the whole Catholic family in heaven and on earth. If you haven’t already read Scott Hahn’s The Lamb Supper. It is a quick really basic overview of the Mass but it helps people see the Mass a little differently. This might help you from getting distracted with the music and hopefully make it more of a reverant affair.

Also, I don’t see anything wrong with bringing up your desire for more traditional mass right now. It shows that you are interested. I would just couch it in more of a question form to begin with like, “I understand that some church’s do so and so… why do we not celebrate this way? Also, do you think it would be appropriate to ask if we could try incorporating X out every once in awhile?” This way you get the reasons why they don’t do it that way, which then you can begin to understand and overcome. At the same time you are basically telling the parish that you are also interested in the spiritual health of the Parish community while and letting everyone know you take your faith very seriously. This will definately warm them up to idea as well and might make it easier for you down the road because you showed an interest in this very early on. But I wouldn’t shy away from asking if your Parish could do something like that. Just make sure if comes off as a suggestion rather than a demand and you will be fine. Besides the priest might even welcome the suggestion himself. Bottom line is this is your parish too and you shouldn’t be afraid to voice your opinions. Just be prepared to compromise or get creative because not everyone may think like you. But overall I think most people will be appreciative of your efforts to help make the community stronger even if they disagree with your way of attempting to do it.

In my case, I am taking it slow with my Parish because there are a lot of elderly people who have been on the Parish council’s forever and are a little resistant to change. I think howvever if they see this is coming from a strong desire to help the Parish community they are more apt to listen. That is just my two cents though.

Also, you are right the networking definately does not hurt.

I think our parish has somewhere around 3,200 families, so I figured there has to be a good many ppl, hopefully, who feel the same way that I do. I watched a video on ETWN where this priest was talking about some of the larger parishes doing both forms of the current mass (havnt learned the names yet ha), whith one being traditional and the other being more “contemporary”, while the was a third one that was the old Mass i think?
Anyways, ive also read that it can get expensive with the incese and all, would it be so if we only used it once a week? I feel at home there and plan on voicing my opinion, in a nice way of course, im just not sure i should start doing it after only one week in RCIA, or should I?
When I am able to get some money together I will buy that Scott Hahn book, I like him as a writer, he makes things easy to comprehend for us new people lol

I think the three forms you are refering to are the Ordinary, Extraordinary form and the Tridentine. (I may be wrong on these). The Tridentine from my understanding is the Traditional Latin Mass. It may be a little more expensive to do the Latin Mass and Extraordinary Form but I don’t think is should be that much more. Yes they do use incense but really the cost would be in acquiring the incense dispenser and some of the bells. I think that most Parishes already have these things because they celebrate High Mass’s on Christmass and some other Holy Days so I don’t think the cost should be that prohibitive. I still think you are fine in voicing your opinion now but just do it in a way that shows you want to learn and experience it. I think, the why do we do it this way when I have noticed other Parishes do it the other way is probably an appropriate question to start with.

If you can’t get the book you can always hit up the library for it. Also if you go to Catholic lighthouse media website, I think you can download a talk by Scott Hahn regarding that book for like $2.00 as an MP3 or $3.00 as a CD also entitled The Lamb’s Supper.
