If one only reads the daily and Sunday Mass scripture readings, how much of the bible is covered in the cycle of readings? I understand the daily Mass readings are in a 2 year cycle and the Sunday readings are in a 3 year cycle.

I don’t recall ever seeing a percentage, only that a *substantial * amount is covered, including all the most important passages. This I would understand to mean as excluding “mirror” accounts (like from I/II Chronicles and I/II Maccabees), and incidental passages, like Paul forgetting his cloak in Troas.

I read in something recently that over the full 3 year cycle, all the daily and Sunday readings are approximately 90% of the Bible.

On a quick add up the OT (excluding psalms) has 875 chapters. My quick add up could be very wrong!

To read this in a 3 year cycle would involve reading approximately 0.8 chapters a day. Obviously the missal readings aren’t normally that long.

I’ve been tempted to go through the missal and work out exactly what is and isn’t included (I dare say things like the opening chapters of 1 Chronicles aren’t there, which to be honest is a relief). Has anyone done that already? Is there a list of Missal readings in Scripture order anywhere?

I believe some missals, like the St Joseph Sunday Missal, have a list of all the Scripture readings in the back.
