Hello.

At the university I attend, our campus ministry department schedules three Masses on Sunday: 11am, 6:30pm, and 10pm. (The later Masses, especially the 10pm, are scheduled because they are supposedly more convenient for a student’s schedule.) My question is, do these late masses count for the Sunday obligation? The university claims that they do, but I wanted to confirm this.

Thanks!

Yes, of course – Why wouldn’t they?
Can. 1248 §1 The obligation of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated in a catholic rite either on a holyday itself or on the evening of the previous day.

I just wasn’t sure if they would count as Monday masses? I guess not.

Thanks.

Sunday is the longest day in the Church calendar- from sundown Saturday to midnight Sunday (roughly 32 hours!). So any mass on Saturday from around 4-5pm or at any time on Sunday fulfils your obligation.
