Mass was the twilight zone today

I started going to a Byzantine Rite Catholic Church and many of these types of problems suddenly disappeared from my eyes. No more clapping, banjos, or corny songs. A total relief.

I’m so sorry you had to endure such a thing. 😦

This was a confirmation Mass? Then I suspect many of the people there were not Catholic, but friends and family. They don’t have clue one how to properly behave (obviously) - but shame on the Bishop for not asking for some respect if it was that bad.

When my Dad was finally confirmed this year it was pretty close to the same thing - people talking everywhere, not paying attention, it was just so sad and infuriating.

Hopefully this is a one time thing and you won’t have to go through this again at your parish. You were totally justified in being angry, I would have been as well.

This pretty much happens at my parish every Sunday.

I can’t think of a worse place to pray than in church.

Something that bothers me is the assumption that because many visitors are not Catholic, they would not know to refrain from talking, pointing, riding pogo sticks and the like. I’m not Jewish, but I know not to talk during service. I’m not Hindu, but I understand that I shouldn’t make cell phone calls while their priest is chanting and putting garlands on the sacred cow. I’m not a lawyer, but I know to shut up in a court when the judge is talking.

My point is, much of this just common courtesy, which sadly uncommon.

Paul

Hopefully they’ll realize it now that you’ve said it. 😛

There are many Catholics who would nod there heads at what I wrote, sadly.
You scared me there for a second…I was skimming and had to go back up and look at the poster’s name again I was so surprised! I thought you went off the deep end.
