Mass was weird today

I don’t mean the liturgy itself, I mean the atmosphere. I got a whole Pew to myself, (which I’m fine with), there was hand sanitizer at every entrance of the church, and the holy water fonts were empty. I brought my own holy water, so I wasn’t too concerned about that. My little sisters did not go to Mass, as my next to youngest sister has had spinal surgery, and I would rather her just not be exposed to stuff like that at the time , because she does have other medical problems , so she and her sister stayed home. I talked to my crush afterwards, as I usually do when I go to Mass. That was weird too, because I was trying to stay close enough to where I could hear her, but far enough that neither of us could make each other sick if we were infected with something. Bizarre times we’re living in.

It was a little weird for me today too. I went to Mass today and I started coughing. Yow! I went to the lobby and got some water and thank goodness that subsided.

Where I live in South Carolina, pollen is really strong this time of year, and every time I cough I think I’m about to die

Thank you but in all honesty, if my friend wouldn’t have been in a car wreck I wouldn’t be here I needed to ask for prayers.

My mother told me that when I was a baby, she found me blue and cold, and she flipped me over and I apparently started breathing again. If I’ve survived death, which is what it sounds like, I can survive this.

So glad to see you’re posting again, Adam! Welcome!

I wish it was under different circumstances, like when there isn’t a global disease problem.

I’m very sorry about your friend, Adam. With the high number of prayer requests that we’re receiving now, I think we’re becoming known as the “Prayer Place,” since people of all denominations request them. I’ve offered prayers for all concerned.

In regards to this thread, I think that any time we experience something not just new, but radically new, the earth seems to tilt under our feet, so I agree with your “weird” assessment. I can attest that the impact of that new reality stays with us for decades. I’ve learned that we fare more smoothly if we continue to pray and to trust in God, Who gave us our lives and loves us.

For reasons that I think most people here know, I’m a creature of habit. I get kind of upset if I have a disrupted routine. I think a lot of people, it probably wouldn’t bother them, but because I’m me, some of this just stuff just feels wrong I’m completely cool with the social distancing, fine with me. One drawback that I’ve noticed with that, is that I’m mostly deaf in my right ear, it’s kind of hard for me to talk to people when I’m that far away from them. Now, I’ve lived long enough to be through other epidemics and pandemics, I think part of it is right now, with the Panic isn’t that it’s not justified, it certainly is to some extent, it’s that news travels so fast now, That everyone is aware of what’s going on. The internet can be a mixed blessing, and you know, people have gotten bad advice, Like Cocaine does not cure Coronavirus , but it’s been very useful for a lot of people who don’t usually watch the news. I don’t know what I’m trying to say. You know my birthday is this month , so my birthday this year will be remembered as the one where everyone is panicking at about Coronavirus. I actually wanted to visit my friend, but I was also coughing and sneezing, while I know those are allergies, since he had just been in a car wreck he probably doesn’t need to be exposed to stuff like that.

I certainly sympathize with you. Compared to when I was a kid, we seem to have an aaaawful lot of spare time on our hands. With so much idle chit-chat time available, I think the rumors abound and people work themselves into minor and major frenzies when a healthy dose of common sense would be so much less complicated. Best wishes to us all!

Y’all, I do have a bit of anxiety and I admit this. But, one of the counties adjacent to the one I live, has just recorded the first coronavirus death in the state of South Carolina. I don’t know what the Diocese of Charleston is going to do next, they’ve already cancelled School, for the same length of time as the state of South Carolina has.

Well, Mass won’t be weird next Sunday, because there won’t be one…

If I’m reading my archdiocese website correctly, we won’t either. No update from my Pastor yet, he’s been really good about keeping us informed. I kinda knew it was coming though.

The Eastern Catholic church near where I live, has not cancelled Divine Liturgy though, so I’m watching that kind of closely too. Strange times.

I’m going to get up on Sunday, shower, put on my “Church” clothes and watch a Mass either on tv or the internet. I’ll stand and knell where appropriate and respond when prompted. I’ll make a spiritual communion. Afterwards I’ll change out of aforementioned Church clothes and find a nice warm spot to take a nap before moving on to regular chores. Just like every other Sunday.

He is okay. I feel kind of bad for not visiting him, but he is at the hospital where there was a case of Coronavirus near me, so there is that, however, I have been sending text messages every day.
