is it allowed to celebrate a mass without kyrie or the act of penitence? It was a novena mass then followed immediately by opening prayer of mass then first reading. the act of penitence and kyrie was omitted. Is it allowed?

Was this a weekday Mass? You say it was a ‘novena Mass’? Do you mean it was directly preceeded by the Liturgy of the Hours?

Yes, the penitential rite may be omitted if the Mass follows on directly from the Litugy of the Hours, with no break in between. (Otherwise, it may not. Though the Penitential rite can be without the Kyrie if it is the Asperges - the sprinkling with holy water)

the Penitential Rite is also omitted on Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday.

it does not follow with liturgy of the hours. it was a novena mass for st. jude.
